Karen Schiefelbein studied law at the University of Hamburg with a focus on European and international law. She expanded her focus on European law during a semester abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France. She then represented the University of Hamburg at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and completed an internship at a business law firm in Perth, Australia. She also received a scholarship from the Leibniz Institute for Media Research/Hans Bredow Institute and successfully completed the Summer School in India at the National Law School Delhi on the topic of “Privacy in an Online Environment”.
In addition to her studies, she worked for several years at the Chair of European and International Law at the University of Hamburg and for a large media company based in Hamburg. As part of her education, she was thus exposed to various aspects of international law at an early stage. After her first state examination, she gained further professional experience in the enforcement of claims in private construction law in a major international construction project of an energy provider.
During her training for the second state examination, her work experience included, among others, the public relations department of the German Bundestag, and a renowned law firm in Cape Town, South Africa. In addition, she worked for the legal department of an international company in the music industry for several years during and after her legal clerkship.
